With over 300 courses in the state, it’s safe to say golf is a popular past-time in Arizona. Our wonderful weather definitely plays a large part in this. For much of the state, there is never really an off-season.
Arizona is also known for unique courses that include all types of terrain and obstacles. And, if you enjoy a challenge for the fun of it or to stay at the top of your game, there are plenty of tournaments to participate in year-round.
It goes without saying that many golfers in the state take their game very seriously. Many are even having their own personal putting greens installed in the convenience of their backyard. These are a great way to practice those tricky short game shots, so having one at your disposal just makes sense. Putting and chipping are the least practiced skills amongst golfers, yet they make up between 35 and 55% of shots!
Initially, home putting greens might sound like a lot of work to upkeep. But, with artificial turf, quite the opposite is true. They’re very low-maintenance since they require no watering or mowing. This makes them surprisingly affordable too. Not only are they a worthwhile investment to improve your game or just relax with family, but backyard-putting greens also add a lot of value to your home. With so many benefits, it’s no wonder so many golf enthusiasts are choosing to have their own putting green installed, indoors or out!
How Long Does it Take to Get a Putting Green Built in My Backyard?
Most people aren’t fans of their backyard being under construction for extended periods. Understandable. Fortunately, the install time for an artificial putting green is surprisingly quick.
In general, it can take between one day and a week to complete the work. (Though many backyard installations take between one and three days.) Time also depends on several factors, such as:
- The size of the green
- Obstacles implemented
- The time of year (i.e. how busy the company installing the turf is)
- Whether the material being used is in stock or needs to be ordered
- And how much yard preparation is needed before the fake grass can be laid
But, before the actual labor begins, planning the design of your green and choosing your synthetic grass must be done. The process generally goes like this:
- Schedule a consultation-Get the ball rolling. Pictures of the space you would like your green are always helpful too.
- Space evaluation-This on-site survey will help installers know what preparation will need to be done. Measurements will also be taken.
- Design-Ideas will be brainstormed and rendered. Materials to use will also be discussed during this time.
- Schedule installation time-Agree to a time, weather-dependent, for the work to be completed.
- Complete project-This process consists of excavation, soil compaction, laying a base, laying the turf, and landscaping around the area.
Much like the cost, it’s hard to say exactly how long any given backyard putting green project will take from start to finish. Weather permitting, it should usually take no longer than a month for completion
What Options Can I Get With My Backyard Putting Green?
Each backyard putting green is unique. That’s just another one of their appeals: there are no others like it. They can be customized to replicate the spots you have trouble with at your favorite course, a few simple holes, or an array of complicated traps and obstacles. The biggest limits are the size of your available outdoor space and imagination.
Speaking of obstacles, you can include whatever challenges you fancy. This can include rocks and boulders to avoid, problematic water traps, or tricky sand traps so you can get better at saving your ball from them. Or, get extra creative and include a beloved statue as an obstacle or even a flower bed. Undulations can make putting or chipping more challenging too.
Size and obstacles aren’t the only customization options. The shape of your backyard putting green can be designed with interesting curvatures to make it more visually appealing or to add an element of difficulty. Be sure to view our photo gallery at the end for some inspiration!
The variety of USA-made turf materials we offer can affect a number of aspects of your green in different ways, such as the ball’s break. Speeds can also be adjusted to your liking. How Much Does a Backyard Golf Green Cost?
Numerous factors affect the cost of a putting green installation. These include:
- The size of the area
- Cost of materials
- Number of cuts (The more intricate the design, the higher the cost)
- Complexity of obstacles
- Any irrigation issues that may need amended
- Retaining walls that are needed or wanted
- And ease of getting to and from the install site. (Large machinery must be used to prepare the area)
That being said, the cost for the artificial turf itself ranges per square foot in our part of the country. It’s also important to keep in mind that the square footage cost will be more expensive for small projects and less for large ones.
Regardless of the size of your project, Turf Monsters is proud to offer an array of materials, ensuring you get a high-quality finished product while staying within your budget.
