How hot does artificial lawn get in summer?

The new turf fibers reflect more sunlight and can reduce the temperature of the surface by up to 30 percent. Additionally, our light colored infill and advanced cooling technology help reduce the absorption of heat.

While it’s true that any type of surface will get hot in prolonged and extreme sun situations, Turf Monsters’ artificial grass is very comfortable for bare feet and pets to walk on after a quick rinse or light shade is applied.

Can I install synthetic lawn over dirt or concrete?

Absolutely, synthetic grass can be laid on both dirt and concrete with the proper preparation. If you’re installing on dirt, weeds need to be cleared and the surface has to be leveled before installing the crushed stone base.

Once the crushed stone or decomposed granite is compacted, a weed barrier needs to be laid down prior to adding the top layer – the turf itself.

If installed on concrete, holes can be drilled to allow for drainage. It’s common to lay a thin layer of sand or foam padding for cushioning.

In both types of installations, seams are joined securely, and the turf’s edges are secured to prevent shifting. As long as the turf is laid on solid ground, you can enjoy durable, level, and low maintenance grass for years of use!

Does imitation grass drain well after rain?

Yes, artificial grass is designed with drainage holes in its backing to allow water to pass through it. Furthermore, underneath the turf is an aggregate base made of crushed stone or sand, which allows water to drain down to the soil.

This two-layer system prevents puddles, while allowing runoff (when properly installed). The right surface grading is also needed to ensure that water is flowing away from structures and low spots. 

The efficiency of drainage depends on both the quality of the turf and the installation, since a poorly compacted base or clogged infill can slow the drainage process over time.

Will weeds grow through synthetic turf?

No. With professional imitation turf installation, weed growth is not an issue. A solid base and quality weed barrier fabric will prevent weeds from growing underneath.

Occasionally, small weeds can sprout in the infill or seams if organic debris builds up. These weeds can be a concern, but the best way to prevent them is simply to perform proper turf maintenance by brushing and cleaning to remove seeds, leaves or dirt from accumulating and creating a habitat for growth.

Trimming the edges of the turf and sealing the seams also minimizes weed growth. A natural weed killer, such as diluted vinegar can also help prevent minor weeds.

How do you clean pet waste from faux grass?

Removing pet waste from synthetic grass is straightforward and sanitary. Solid waste should still be picked up as soon as possible, similar to natural grass.

Use a hose as often as needed to rinse the area thoroughly to remove any waste residue, then use a mild soap or enzyme cleaner to eliminate odors and bacteria.

For urine, hosing the area every week (or more frequently if you have multiple dogs) helps prevent waste accumulation and eliminates odors brought out by the heat.

Our synthetic grass systems use infill products that improve drainage and prevent odor retention in the turf. Many pet owners simply sprinkle on baking soda or use turf deodorizer sprays on the area.

With regular rinsing and occasional more thorough cleanings, synthetic grass can stay clean and fresh, while still being pet-friendly the entire year.

Does imitation turf fade or discolor with age?

Top-quality artificial turf is UV stabilized, providing protection against fading through the addition of special ingredients within the fibers. A little fading may occur over the course of several years, but generally, the overall color tone remains the same as when you purchased it.

Lower quality turf, which does not have UV protection, is easy to spot as it fades under the sun much faster, especially in Central Arizona with our intense heat and sunlight.

Keep in mind that strong chemicals, like bleach, should not be used for cleaning stains on your fake grass due to the possibility of color fading. 

Dust accumulating on the turf surface can make artificial grass look dull, but a simple rinse brings back its bright green finish.
